Archetype: I Died From Overwork Typing A 9000-Page Report And Woke Up In A Fantasy World?!

Lead Game Designer | Character Artist | Level Designer

The game

Start a heroic roguelike journey in the crisis-riddled land of Clickclackia, where your greatest tools are your typing fingers! How fast can you go?!

  • Made as part of an incubation project under Cargo Studio in Singapore, we aimed to break into the indie game scene with a new Typing game, inspired by Typing of the Dead.

  • By figuring out how to best utilize the typing mechanic, we decided to go with a Roguelike Dungeon-crawler.

  • It seemed quite quaint to use an isekai theme to explain why a player who types becomes the savior of the world.

  • In this project, I led the team as the lead designer and also the sole artist.

My role in this production

As the lead of the team (4 Designers, 1 Programmer), I had to ensure that everyone understood the vision for the game.

Lead Designer

Apart from standard lead designer duties like task delegation, I made mock-ups of every single part of the game to create as clear an image of the game as possible. After which, ideas to improve or change things started from there.

Artist

Lacking an artist, I took on the role as the character designer. As for the environment, I purchased online assets and arranged them into levels.

Boss Battle Designer

The bosses had the most significance to the story. I wanted to make sure their battles left certain impressions, so I designed each battle personally and ensured they matched the BGM.

Results

Uploaded to itch.io. Development stopped.

After 6 months, we brought it to the level of a playable demo and could upload it to itch.io.

After that point, however, most of us got full-time job offers, some had to return to their home countries.

With our paths diverged, we ended up not completing the game.

Currently, I'm remaking a game based on the same concept as a personal project.
