Nexus World

Game Director

What is it?

Nexus World is a metaverse with a shared lore, monsters and characters that is shared by multiple products created by the company, including games, NFTs and cryptocurrency.

  • The mainline project, project title "Nexus World", was a geolocation-based monster raising game where players can catch monsters (named Buddies), raise them and battle with them.
     

  • As the one who conceptualized the universe, lore and core mechanics, I was hired as the Game Director to lead the production team in the development of all games that would soon connect under the metaverse.
     

  • One of the projects that released first was a MOBA called Buddy Arena which features the same characters from the mainline game.

My role in this production

As the Game Director, my role was to establish the vision for the games and chart a course for the team to follow. There was an idea for a product, but it had no identity. The concept of Nexus World I pitched to the bosses soon became just that.

Game Design

A new challenge was figuring how to design games in the context of a Web3 Metaverse. It was easy to follow trends, but many of them prioritised monetization over gameplay. From the beginning, I decided that the metaverse needs to be rooted in enjoyable experiences first.

Art

Working closely with the art team, we conceptualised a whole new alien world with new kinds of nature, wildlife and ecosystem. The ideation and concepting phase was one of the most intensive but enjoyable processes.

Lore

As this was to become a lore that was shared across multiple products, I had to spend a lot of time writing a lore that not only had a lot of material that can be adapted, but also free enough to be added to by as many kinds of media as possible.
